CLOUDS, DAFFODILS AND BUTTERFLIES
I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers,
From the seas and the streams;
I bear light shade for the leaves when laid
In their noonday dreams,
From my wings are shaken the dews that waken
The sweet buds every one,
When rocked to rest on their mother’s breast,
As she dances about the sun,
I wield the flail of the lashing hail,
And whiten the green plains under,
And then again I dissolve it in rain,
And laugh as I pass in thunder . . . ..
The Cloud by Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822)
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils,
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze . . . ..
Daffodils by William Wordsworth
Hoping to catch your eye
Circling around you, oh my
Butterfly, butterfly, come into the light
Oh, what a beautiful sight
Flying so gracefully
Into the sky, the butterfly . . . ..
Butterfly, Butterfly by Sharon Adamson
What do clouds, daffodils and butterflies all have in common? They are all part of God’s creation, all part of His plan for all of His creatures to share this great planet Earth. The clouds bring the rain needed to quench the Earth’s thirst. The Earth is renewed and the daffodils raise their bright heads, a sign that Spring will soon appear. From the warmth of the Earth, the butterflies are freed from their cocoons, darting gracefully across the sky, their vibrant colors a testament to His glory. Genesis 1:31 “God saw everything that he had made, and indeed it was very good.”
These are only a few examples of what God gave us to care for and enjoy. Let us rejoice in His creation, this planet earth, each day as we go through our daily lives. Remember, we are only sojourners, here for a short time.
